Resources for Military Families

Fruit Cove Middle School supports our military-connected students and families.
Fruit Cove Middle School has the honor of educating many military children. Fruit Cove Middle School recognizes the unique needs of military families and their children. We hope these resources help the transition to a new school environment. Don’t hesitate to reach out to us with any concerns or needs.
As a member of the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children, Florida recognizes the need to provide support to students of military families. Today’s military children and families experience unique hardships. They move frequently and must adjust to new living environments, schools and peer groups much more than their civilian counterparts. They live through repeated cycles of separation and reunion.
The compact rules are designed to:
- Facilitate the transfer of education records and enrollment
- Promote smooth transitions to graduation
- Promote seamless transitions for course and educational placements
- Consider circumstances for excused absences
- Facilitate eligibility for enrollment in school and extracurricular participation
Military Recognition Events
- November 2025 Veteran’s Day Door Decorations
- December 2025 Cookie and Cards, an after school event to make cards for our service members stationed overseas for the holidays
- April 2026, Month of the Military Child. Look for special recognitions and celebrations
- May 2026 Memorial Day Poppies. In honor and remembrance of our fallen service men and women, our students made a field of poppies to adorn our school walls.

Information for Exceptional Student services
The mission of Fruit Cove Middle School’s Exceptional Student Education (ESE) program is to provide a supportive, inclusive, and empowering learning environment that meets the diverse needs of students with disabilities. Through individualized instruction, collaborative partnerships, and a commitment to equity, we strive to nurture academic growth, social development, and self-advocacy. Our goal is to prepare every student to thrive as lifelong learners and responsible, contributing members of their community.
Our Assistant Principal, Matt Hodges, heads the Fruit Cove Middle School ESE program. Contact Mr. Hodges for assistance transferring IEPs and 504s from other states and locations. Each ESE student is paired with one of our guidance counselors and an ESE teacher to help oversee their accommodations and special needs.
Our Student-Led Transition Program
Fruit Cove Middle School has a dedicated group of student leaders who serve as school ambassadors. These students, known at our school as WEB leaders, welcome new student enrollees with two large events prior to the start of school, 6th Grade Connections and Get the Scoop for new rising 7th and 8th graders. Our WEB leaders welcome new students who enroll during the school year by offering tours, introducing them to peers and joining them for lunch to help ease the transition. We also host a Friends-giving during Thanksgiving week just for new students. Additionally, we host monthly events designed to build friendships and foster a sense of community. From making ice cream sundaes to creating cards for deployed service members and celebrating fun holidays, there’s always something meaningful and fun happening at FCMS!
